The days are shorter now, and the nights are definitely cooler.
December has a way of reminding us that less light does not have to mean less energy. Instead, it asks something quieter of us. To slow down. To listen more closely. To notice what truly supports us, especially when we are caring for others.
At this time of year, warmth matters.
Not only as a physical sensation, but as a way of feeling held in ourselves. Warmth can come from rest, from nourishment, from simple rituals that tell the body it is safe to soften.
Looking after our foundations becomes especially important in December. Enough sleep. Enough water. Food that feels comforting rather than demanding. These are not luxuries, they are the ground we stand on.
When we tend to these basics, something steadies. We find it easier to be present. Kinder with ourselves. More spacious in how we show up for the people around us.
Homemade Coconut and Chocolate Bars
You will need:
1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
3½ tablespoons pure maple syrup or honey
2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
⅛ teaspoon sea salt
100 g good quality chocolate
To make it:
Add the coconut, maple syrup or honey, coconut oil, vanilla, and salt to a food processor and blend until well combined. You can also mix everything thoroughly by hand if you prefer.
Line a plate or tray with parchment paper. Shape the mixture into small bars or patties and place them in the freezer until firm.
Melt the chocolate gently. If you like a smoother coating, add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to the chocolate as it melts.
Dip each bar into the chocolate and return them to the fridge to set.
Store in the fridge and enjoy when you need something warming and grounding.
December does not ask us to do more. It asks us to notice what helps us feel supported, and to give ourselves permission to meet those needs without guilt.
Sometimes, that is as simple as a homemade treat, a quiet moment, and a cup of something warm.
