article: Making spirituality a religion

I get it. A nondual (or other spiritual) exploration can be engaging,

Feeling at peace with ourselves, our lives, our relationships, our world…is naturally enticing.

And when a teacher seems to be great at articulating the route to peace, then it makes sense to pause and listen.

But, here’s the thing.

That teacher is a human being, with all the normal human foibles. They don’t have special access to truth. They aren’t any more special or different than you are.

It’s cool to spend time with someone who empowers you to be more fully you.

And that’s the end of it.

The core of the spiritual exploration is you getting to know you better.

Nothing against faith – but making this self-inquiry a religion of its own is dodgy at best and dangerous at worst.

A good teacher will not only tell you this is about you – not them – they will show it in their actions,

TL;DR: Spiritual enquiry good. Turning it into a devotion to another person – caveat emptor.
